A damp spring with heavy mildew pressure, followed by a hot, dry, sunny summer right through to harvest: 2018 gave Bordeaux rich, concentrated and highly structured wines, among the most acclaimed of the decade. Château Margaux 2018 received a perfect 100 points from Robert Parker. The wine marries the power of the vintage with the finesse of the estate: cassis, blackberry, plum, violet, rose, graphite, cedar and cocoa on a deep, velvety palate, with abundant yet silky tannins and extraordinary persistence. Wine Spectator gave it 98 points. The 2018 is already impressive but still young: it has a long evolution ahead and will reward those who wait.

One of the four Premiers Grands Crus Classés of the famous 1855 Classification, Château Margaux is perhaps the most emblematic estate in Bordeaux, the ultimate symbol of Médoc elegance. The property, with its majestic neo-Palladian château from the early nineteenth century, lies in the commune of the same name on the left bank of the Gironde, on deep gravel soils particularly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, the grape that dominates the Grand Vin alongside small proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Since 1977 the estate has belonged to the Mentzelopoulos family: André launched a sweeping renovation, continued by his daughter Corinne with the legendary director Paul Pontallier and, after his passing, with Philippe Bascaules. The estate also makes Pavillon Rouge and Pavillon Blanc, a white from Sauvignon Blanc. Château Margaux's style combines floral aromas of extraordinary finesse, silky tannins and a structure built to defy the decades: a wine that embodies the very idea of great Bordeaux.
