The wine in this vintage

Rescued by an exceptionally warm, sunny September after a cool summer, 2014 gave Bordeaux classic, fresh and well-structured wines, with particularly brilliant results for Médoc Cabernet Sauvignon. Château Margaux 2014 is a refined expression of it: cassis, blueberry, violet, graphite, cedar and a note of sweet tobacco form a precise bouquet, while the palate is taut and deep, with fine tannins and a long, mineral finish. Wine Enthusiast rated it 97 points, Robert Parker 95. This Margaux still comes across as young, with a structure that needs time to unwind; a few more years in the cellar will allow its elegance and aromatic complexity to be fully appreciated.

The producer · Château Margaux

One of the four Premiers Grands Crus Classés of the famous 1855 Classification, Château Margaux is perhaps the most emblematic estate in Bordeaux, the ultimate symbol of Médoc elegance. The property, with its majestic neo-Palladian château from the early nineteenth century, lies in the commune of the same name on the left bank of the Gironde, on deep gravel soils particularly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, the grape that dominates the Grand Vin alongside small proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Since 1977 the estate has belonged to the Mentzelopoulos family: André launched a sweeping renovation, continued by his daughter Corinne with the legendary director Paul Pontallier and, after his passing, with Philippe Bascaules. The estate also makes Pavillon Rouge and Pavillon Blanc, a white from Sauvignon Blanc. Château Margaux's style combines floral aromas of extraordinary finesse, silky tannins and a structure built to defy the decades: a wine that embodies the very idea of great Bordeaux.
