A far from easy vintage in Bordeaux, 2012 saw a rainy spring, a hot, dry summer and rain during harvest, with better results for those who chose the right moment to pick. At Château Margaux the outcome was surprisingly successful: a wine of great charm, with juicy fruit and supple tannins. Margaux 2012 opens with blackcurrant, black cherry, violet, rose, spice and cedar, with a harmonious, fine and nicely long palate. Jancis Robinson gave it 18.5/20, Robert Parker 96 points. The wine is now in its best phase: open, aromatic, with a silky texture and well-developed complexity. A chance to enjoy the estate's style without having to wait.
The producer · Château Margaux
One of the four Premiers Grands Crus Classés of the famous 1855 Classification, Château Margaux is perhaps the most emblematic estate in Bordeaux, the ultimate symbol of Médoc elegance. The property, with its majestic neo-Palladian château from the early nineteenth century, lies in the commune of the same name on the left bank of the Gironde, on deep gravel soils particularly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, the grape that dominates the Grand Vin alongside small proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Since 1977 the estate has belonged to the Mentzelopoulos family: André launched a sweeping renovation, continued by his daughter Corinne with the legendary director Paul Pontallier and, after his passing, with Philippe Bascaules. The estate also makes Pavillon Rouge and Pavillon Blanc, a white from Sauvignon Blanc. Château Margaux's style combines floral aromas of extraordinary finesse, silky tannins and a structure built to defy the decades: a wine that embodies the very idea of great Bordeaux.
