A vintage of delicate balances, 2018 demanded great care after a very wet spring and a hot, humid summer, yielding lighter, more aromatic Barolos. Giuseppe Rinaldi's Barolo Tre Tine 2018 captures the fragrant soul of the year: strawberry, cherry, rose, herbs and a hint of orange combine on a fresh, flowing palate supported by fine tannins. Antonio Galloni rated it 94 points, a fine result in a vintage that rewarded careful growers. More immediate than classic vintages, this Tre Tine shows its charm at its best today, while still able to age for a few more years.
The producer · Giuseppe Rinaldi
In the heart of the village of Barolo, the Giuseppe Rinaldi cellar is one of the sanctuaries of traditional Barolo. The family has made wine for generations, and it was Giuseppe Rinaldi, nicknamed "Citrico" for his sharp wit, who turned the estate into an international reference, stubbornly defending a classic style while many others chased barriques. Today his daughters Marta and Carlotta run the winery, following in the footsteps of their father, who passed away in 2018. The vineyards lie in some of the appellation's most celebrated crus: Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste, joined more recently by Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. Brunate yields the flagship wine, while Tre Tine is a blend of several plots in the old Langhe tradition. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and ageing in large oak casks are the rule. The result is transparent, perfumed, remarkably long-lived Barolo, among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.
