Among the most promising vintages of the last decade, 2021 combined a dry, luminous summer with cool nights, producing Barolos with a fine balance between structure and perfume. In Giuseppe Rinaldi's Barolo Bussia 2021, the vigorous character of the Monforte cru meets the tension of the year. Expect black cherry, rose, violet, liquorice and forest floor, dense tannins and an acid backbone that promises longevity. Still very young, the wine currently shows energy and potential above all: after a few years in the cellar it will reveal the depth and complexity typical of great traditional Barolo.
The producer · Giuseppe Rinaldi
In the heart of the village of Barolo, the Giuseppe Rinaldi cellar is one of the sanctuaries of traditional Barolo. The family has made wine for generations, and it was Giuseppe Rinaldi, nicknamed "Citrico" for his sharp wit, who turned the estate into an international reference, stubbornly defending a classic style while many others chased barriques. Today his daughters Marta and Carlotta run the winery, following in the footsteps of their father, who passed away in 2018. The vineyards lie in some of the appellation's most celebrated crus: Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste, joined more recently by Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. Brunate yields the flagship wine, while Tre Tine is a blend of several plots in the old Langhe tradition. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and ageing in large oak casks are the rule. The result is transparent, perfumed, remarkably long-lived Barolo, among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.
