After its debut in the classic 2019, Rinaldi's Barolo Bussia 2020 faces a warmer yet harmonious vintage that produced juicy Nebbiolo with softer tannins. Monforte's typical power is here counterpointed by ripe fruit: dark cherry, plum, rose, spice and balsamic notes unfold on a broad, enveloping palate with a long, mineral finish. Antonio Galloni awarded it 96 points, confirming the value of this new cru in the estate's range and its place alongside the family's historic vineyards. The wine is already expressive, yet it has the structure to evolve positively in the cellar for many years.
The producer · Giuseppe Rinaldi
In the heart of the village of Barolo, the Giuseppe Rinaldi cellar is one of the sanctuaries of traditional Barolo. The family has made wine for generations, and it was Giuseppe Rinaldi, nicknamed "Citrico" for his sharp wit, who turned the estate into an international reference, stubbornly defending a classic style while many others chased barriques. Today his daughters Marta and Carlotta run the winery, following in the footsteps of their father, who passed away in 2018. The vineyards lie in some of the appellation's most celebrated crus: Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste, joined more recently by Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. Brunate yields the flagship wine, while Tre Tine is a blend of several plots in the old Langhe tradition. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and ageing in large oak casks are the rule. The result is transparent, perfumed, remarkably long-lived Barolo, among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.
