The wine in this vintage

Heat, drought and an early harvest defined 2017, a vintage that produced concentrated, structured Barolos. The blend of several crus behind Tre Tine, however, allowed Rinaldi to strike a precious balance. Barolo Tre Tine 2017 shows dark, ripe fruit, with cherry, blackberry, rose and spice, a full palate and firm tannins refreshed by a savoury streak. Decanter awarded it 96 points and Antonio Galloni 95, recognising one of the more successful wines of a challenging year. Generous and already enjoyable, it will refine its tannic texture over time and develop tertiary notes of tobacco and forest floor.

The producer · Giuseppe Rinaldi

In the heart of the village of Barolo, the Giuseppe Rinaldi cellar is one of the sanctuaries of traditional Barolo. The family has made wine for generations, and it was Giuseppe Rinaldi, nicknamed "Citrico" for his sharp wit, who turned the estate into an international reference, stubbornly defending a classic style while many others chased barriques. Today his daughters Marta and Carlotta run the winery, following in the footsteps of their father, who passed away in 2018. The vineyards lie in some of the appellation's most celebrated crus: Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste, joined more recently by Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. Brunate yields the flagship wine, while Tre Tine is a blend of several plots in the old Langhe tradition. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and ageing in large oak casks are the rule. The result is transparent, perfumed, remarkably long-lived Barolo, among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.
