In 2019 the Langhe enjoyed a classic, cool and even vintage, producing taut, fragrant Nebbiolo with great ageing potential. Giuseppe Rinaldi's Barolo Brunate 2019 embodies that profile perfectly: rose, violet, cherry, raspberry, herbs and a subtle hint of tar merge on a vertical palate with tight tannins and vibrant acidity. Antonio Galloni rated it 96 points, placing it among the standout wines of a much-praised vintage. Today the wine shows above all its youth and energy; to appreciate its depth fully it will need a few more years, but its ageing potential is considerable.
The producer · Giuseppe Rinaldi
In the heart of the village of Barolo, the Giuseppe Rinaldi cellar is one of the sanctuaries of traditional Barolo. The family has made wine for generations, and it was Giuseppe Rinaldi, nicknamed "Citrico" for his sharp wit, who turned the estate into an international reference, stubbornly defending a classic style while many others chased barriques. Today his daughters Marta and Carlotta run the winery, following in the footsteps of their father, who passed away in 2018. The vineyards lie in some of the appellation's most celebrated crus: Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste, joined more recently by Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. Brunate yields the flagship wine, while Tre Tine is a blend of several plots in the old Langhe tradition. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and ageing in large oak casks are the rule. The result is transparent, perfumed, remarkably long-lived Barolo, among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.
