A rainy spring, a hot and humid summer and a harvest focused on selection: 2018 rewarded the most rigorous growers, yielding aromatic, lighter-bodied Barolos that are pleasurable early on. Rinaldi's Barolo Brunate 2018 offers a particularly successful reading, with strawberry, cherry, rose and citrus peel on the nose, a juicy palate and fine tannins lifted by bright acidity. Antonio Galloni awarded it 95 points and Jancis Robinson 17.5/20. This is a Brunate with a luminous, immediate soul, giving great pleasure today and able to age for several more years while gaining further nuance and depth.
The producer · Giuseppe Rinaldi
In the heart of the village of Barolo, the Giuseppe Rinaldi cellar is one of the sanctuaries of traditional Barolo. The family has made wine for generations, and it was Giuseppe Rinaldi, nicknamed "Citrico" for his sharp wit, who turned the estate into an international reference, stubbornly defending a classic style while many others chased barriques. Today his daughters Marta and Carlotta run the winery, following in the footsteps of their father, who passed away in 2018. The vineyards lie in some of the appellation's most celebrated crus: Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste, joined more recently by Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. Brunate yields the flagship wine, while Tre Tine is a blend of several plots in the old Langhe tradition. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and ageing in large oak casks are the rule. The result is transparent, perfumed, remarkably long-lived Barolo, among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.
