A great classic vintage, 2016 gave the Langhe a long, even season, with wide temperature swings in September and October that heightened aromatics and structure. For many enthusiasts, Rinaldi's Barolo Brunate 2016 is one of the most complete expressions of the cru. Antonio Galloni rated it 97.5 points and Wine Enthusiast 99. Rose, cherry, raspberry, herbs, tobacco and a mineral undertone follow one another in the glass; the palate is deep and vibrant, with dense, silky tannins and a seemingly endless finish. Still a young Barolo, it is destined to evolve for decades: fascinating today, it will surprise tomorrow.
The producer · Giuseppe Rinaldi
In the heart of the village of Barolo, the Giuseppe Rinaldi cellar is one of the sanctuaries of traditional Barolo. The family has made wine for generations, and it was Giuseppe Rinaldi, nicknamed "Citrico" for his sharp wit, who turned the estate into an international reference, stubbornly defending a classic style while many others chased barriques. Today his daughters Marta and Carlotta run the winery, following in the footsteps of their father, who passed away in 2018. The vineyards lie in some of the appellation's most celebrated crus: Brunate, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste, joined more recently by Bussia in Monforte d'Alba. Brunate yields the flagship wine, while Tre Tine is a blend of several plots in the old Langhe tradition. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and ageing in large oak casks are the rule. The result is transparent, perfumed, remarkably long-lived Barolo, among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.
