The wine in this vintage

A hot, dry summer followed by some rain at the end of August: 2015 gave Champagne ripe grapes and rich, generous wines with a sunny profile and serious structure. In the best sites, Pinot Noir showed great fullness. Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2015 interprets the vintage with balance: yellow fruit, peach, candied citrus, brioche, spice and dried fruit, supported by a freshness that keeps the palate dynamic. Jancis Robinson rated it 18/20. Already expressive, this Champagne can evolve for a long time, gaining depth and complexity. It pairs superbly with shellfish, turbot or poultry in cream sauces.

The producer · Pol Roger

Founded in 1849 by Pol Roger, the house is based in Épernay on the famous Avenue de Champagne and is one of the few great houses still wholly owned by the founding family. Its cellars, among the deepest and coolest in the town, allow long ageing on the lees at a constant temperature, one of the secrets of the house style: very fine bubbles, elegance, precision and remarkable ageing capacity. Pol Roger owns vineyards in the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne, complemented by grapes from trusted growers. Its bond with Winston Churchill, a devoted admirer of the house and friend of Odette Pol-Roger, is legendary: in his honour the house created the Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, made only in the finest years, Pinot Noir-led from grand cru vineyards and designed to embody the structure, depth and longevity the statesman loved in his Champagne. Today it is one of the most admired prestige cuvées in Champagne.
