2015 in Alto Adige was a warm, sunny vintage, with a generous summer that delivered healthy, very ripe grapes, ideal for a late-harvest wine such as Cantina Tramin's Epokale. This Gewürztraminer Spätlese, aged at length in the galleries of an old silver mine, shows a particularly rich profile in 2015: dried apricot, mango, lychee, rose petals, acacia honey, cinnamon and a hint of saffron. The palate is dense and silky, with full sweetness supported by present acidity and a long, spicy trail. Already splendid, it can be cellared for many more years.

Founded in 1898 in Termeno (Tramin), the village that tradition credits with giving Gewürztraminer its name, Cantina Tramin is one of Alto Adige's benchmark cooperatives. It brings together a few hundred member growers who farm small plots on the slopes of the Bassa Atesina, from the lowest valley-floor vineyards to those climbing above five hundred metres, on limestone, moraine and porphyry soils. Over recent decades, under the winemaking leadership of Willi Stürz, the winery has made an extraordinary leap in quality, enforcing rigorous vineyard selection and precise vinification. Gewürztraminer is its signature grape, interpreted in several styles, from Nussbaumer, a benchmark dry white, to Epokale, a Spätlese aged for years in the silence of a high-altitude former silver mine. Alongside the aromatic whites, the range includes Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and mountain reds. Tramin shows how a cooperative can reach the summit of Italian winemaking without losing its bond with the land.

Yes, whenever you wish. Within Italy: €20 for the first bottle and €5 for each additional one, with optional transit insurance at 3% of the declared value. We ship early in the week, in packaging designed for wine.
