The wine in this vintage

Clos Saint-Jacques, a southeast-facing Premier Cru above the village of Gevrey, is considered by many the equal of a Grand Cru, and Rousseau's is the benchmark version. In 2019, a warm, dry yet very balanced vintage, it produced a wine of extraordinary elegance. Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques 2019 offers cherry, raspberry, rose, fine spice and a mineral note, with a silky, deep and sleek palate and very fine-grained tannins. Decanter awarded it 97 points and Jancis Robinson 18.5/20. Still young, it already shows grace, but it has many years of evolution ahead.

In Gevrey-Chambertin the Rousseau name is synonymous with Pinot Noir at its highest level. The domaine was founded in the early twentieth century by Armand Rousseau, who gradually acquired parcels in the village's finest climats and was among the first in Burgundy to bottle his own wine. His son Charles expanded the holdings and the estate's international reputation, and today the domaine is led by Eric Rousseau together with his daughter Cyrielle. At its heart lie some of the most prestigious Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits, including Chambertin, where the family is one of the leading owners, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Mazis-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche, as well as the legendary Premier Cru Clos Saint-Jacques. The house style favours purity of fruit, transparency and fine tannins, without excessive extraction or new oak. Rousseau's wines unite elegance and depth and rank among the most sought-after Burgundies in the world.
