The wine in this vintage

In 2020 Burgundy experienced a hot, dry season, with one of the earliest harvests on record and small, concentrated grapes, yet supported by unexpected freshness. Armand Rousseau's Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2020 offers a masterly reading of it: Antonio Galloni awarded it 99 points. Blackberry, black cherry, violet, spice and damp earth alternate on the nose; the palate is powerful yet chiselled, with dense, polished tannins and a long mineral trail. Still young and compact, the wine is destined for long ageing: those who wait will be rewarded with a Clos de Bèze of great stature.

In Gevrey-Chambertin the Rousseau name is synonymous with Pinot Noir at its highest level. The domaine was founded in the early twentieth century by Armand Rousseau, who gradually acquired parcels in the village's finest climats and was among the first in Burgundy to bottle his own wine. His son Charles expanded the holdings and the estate's international reputation, and today the domaine is led by Eric Rousseau together with his daughter Cyrielle. At its heart lie some of the most prestigious Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits, including Chambertin, where the family is one of the leading owners, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Mazis-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche, as well as the legendary Premier Cru Clos Saint-Jacques. The house style favours purity of fruit, transparency and fine tannins, without excessive extraction or new oak. Rousseau's wines unite elegance and depth and rank among the most sought-after Burgundies in the world.
