The wine

The grapes come from pergola vines at Marega, between 220 and 430 metres, on stony limestone soils. After the first fermentation the wine passes over the Amarone pomace, which gives it structure and depth, and ages in tonneaux. Dark cherry, spices and herbs; on the palate fine tannins and great drinkability.

The producer

Monte dei Ragni

Monte dei Ragni is Zeno Zignoli's small estate at Marega, in Fumane, in Valpolicella Classica: eight hectares, only a couple of them under vine, with low yielding pergolas between dry stone walls. The first vintage was 2003; only a few thousand bottles are released each year.

Food pairing

Pasta with meat ragù, roasts, game, aged cheeses.

Serve at 16–18 °C.
