2021 was a complicated vintage in Burgundy: a devastating April frost and a cool, rainy summer drastically reduced quantities, producing lighter, fresher, more transparent wines in a style reminiscent of the classic vintages of old. Groffier's 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses offers a particularly refined reading: red cherry, raspberry, rose petals, herbs, light spice and an earthy note, a nimble, juicy palate, fine tannins and pronounced acidity. Wine Spectator rated it 96 points. Already enjoyable for its purity, it can evolve for several more years. In a vintage of tiny quantities, it is also a particularly rare bottle.
The producer · Domaine Robert Groffier
Domaine Robert Groffier Père & Fils is based in Morey-Saint-Denis, but its name is tied above all to Chambolle-Musigny and in particular to Les Amoureuses, the most famous premier cru of the Côte de Nuits, often deemed worthy of grand cru status: the domaine is among its largest owners. The family, now led by Nicolas Groffier, farms an estate of only a few hectares but of extraordinary prestige, including the grands crus Bonnes-Mares and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze and other Chambolle premiers crus. The house style favours ripe, fleshy fruit, deep colour and a velvety texture, with measured new oak that supports rather than masks. After a period when the wines were considered opulent, recent vintages have gained precision and finesse while keeping the domaine's characteristic generosity. Groffier wines are now among the Burgundies most sought by collectors, and their Les Amoureuses is an absolute reference for the appellation.
